Angels...still a work in progress

Still working on this one...but I thought it would be a nice image for the season. Yes, I believe in Angels

First painting since I got to NOLA

Ride All Day for 3, 24" x 24", mixed media & collage on wood panel, Andrew Portwood copyright 2017

Well, I did it. I moved to New Orleans and set up shop in an apartment right on the Streetcar line. Crazy?, Impulsive? Yes. You only live once you know. I found a job in grocery produce and I paint the rest of the time...Learning my way around this beautiful city and trying to find my niche and a place to hang my artwork creations. Here is a new painting inspired by my new surroundings...Here is a hint: I ride the streetcar everyday :)

Tis' the season to paint...

Monumental Purple  40" x 40" , acrylic & mixed media on canvas, Andrew Portwood copyright 2016

Starting to paint again and feeling centered. When I have a stretch of time...and especially if I know that snow is in the forecast...I can suspend time and "get to it". Otherwise...life's demands prohibit such an indulgence.
But is it an indulgence? No....it is like breathing- it is my identity....It just doesn't fit in with everyone else and their agenda or schedule.... which brings up the next subject; loneliness. So painting is an indulgence (or obsession) that brings me internal happiness and gratification, yet keeps me isolated and somewhat lonely and poor. But when I'm ahead of the game and have sold some paintings... and my bills are payed and I feel good about my work and direction...It's euphoric and completely makes sense. I am feeling blessed today and living in the present.

Note to Self :  Stop thinking about it. Believe in yourself, work and go with the flow.
